The safest horse fence

When we purchased our little piece of paradise I wanted my horses to be safe from injury 24/7, 365 days of the year - even if I was away. I did alot of research online and found Electrobraid. I asked a question about it on a popular horse forum (about who was using it and what they thought) - every single person that replied loved it, raved about it, and I even saw a photo where this enormous tree had fallen on it, they cut the tree up and the braid (fence) bounced back with no damage.

I found a retailer or agent in New Zealand for it and she lady was really helpful in helping me work out how much I needed. I designed a Track System so that my horses stay fit naturally and get as close as possible to grazing in the wild as they can be. Horses like to roam and graze, it's better for their digestion, so a track system enables this. With two strands on the inside track side and three on the outer (1 meter from our boundary wire fence), it was cost effective and went up in a day once the posts were in.

It looks fantastic and it's safe. Easy to install and maintain  - I've done nothing to it in 4 years!

This is taken from the Electrobraid New Zealand Distributor website (Premier Equestrian) and I agree with all of it! Fantastic stuff.
  • It is highly visible to horses.  Horses are far sighted and look to the horizon as they scan their environment. So even when close the braid is visible enough to be seen.
  • It is secure enough to contain a horse that runs into it without causing injury or fence damage.  A single strand of ElectroBraid requires 1300pounds before it breaks.
  • It has enough give to minimise impact injuries—like ropes on a boxing ring it gives and springs back - many nylon coated fences are too rigid and can cause broken bones.
  • The electric current acts as a physiological deterrent which will discourage jumping and discourage horses pushing on or testing the fence.
  • Installed correctly it will have no openings that can easily trap a head or hoof (this is why some meshes are so dangerous for horses).
  • There are no sharp edges or projections that can injure a horse that is leaning, scratching or falling into it.  The Braid is unique to anything on the market as it is a made of high strength polyester.  Nylon Braids and wire may still cut and puncture your horse.
  • It is inexpensive to install and easy to maintain.  I am of slight build and once the posts were in place I installed it on my own!
  • It has a 25 year warranty against, rot, rust and environmental damage.  No other Braid or permanent electric fence product offers this!
  • It looks appealing, your fields will feel clearer and more open—I enjoy seeing my horses and they enjoy feeling like they are in wide open predator-free places!
I have had no injuries to my horses (not even a slight scratch) in the 4 years I have had it up, and that includes having yearlings and lots of playing and bucking. One day my yearling caught his back hoof on a strand of Electrobraid as he kicked out playing - the strand just came off the insulator and all I had to do was clip it back in. Imagine the scene if the fence had been wire.

I have grazed my horses (previous to buying our own place) at three different properties, all with wire fencing, one with some barbed wire, and I have seen first hand some horrific injuries. One to my own horse - he was 20 years old and was chased through a fence.

After that I swore my horses would never ever be at risk again and started on my 'research into fencing mission'!

Since then, I hear stories every single week about injuries to horses from fences, wire and post and rail. At the end of the day horses are prey animals, if they are scared they will run, often in a blind panic, if there is an unforgiving fence in the way you'll have injuries. The cost of the Electrobraid is minimal when you weigh up the future vet bill savings!
